Pet Poems

A Few Words Of Wisdom And Love

Sometimes the pain of loosing your pet is so intense and overwhelming, it makes it hard to relate and focus on anything else. And to ease some of that stress and sadness, I have selected a few poems that I hope reflect the compassion and love we all shared with our furry babies. They were and always will be close to our hearts. And for some, they were the center of our world.

And perhaps this will inspire you to personally sit down and express your feelings about your personal loss. By putting pen to paper, we make it real. Don't be afraid to let it flow, it's great for the healing process. And those words are for your eyes only, not for anyone to judge or criticize. When you speak from the heart, there are no wrongs, only rights.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

You'll Meet Me In The Light

I know that you can't see me, but trust me I'm right here. Although I'm up in Heaven, my love for you stays near.

So often I see you crying, many times you call my name. I want so much to lick your face and ease some of your pain.

I wish that I could make you see that Heaven indeed is real. If you could see me run and play, how much better you would feel.

But our loving God has promised me that when the time is right, you'll step out of the darkness and meet me in the light.

My Forever Pet

There's something missing in my home, I feel it day and night. I know it will take time and strength before things feel quite right.

But just for now, I need to mourn, my heart it needs to mend. Though some may say it's 'just a pet', I know I've lost a friend.

You've brought such laughter to my home and richness to my days. A constant friend through joy or loss, with gently loving ways.

Companion, pal and confidante, a friend I won't forget. You'll live for always in my heart, my sweet forever pet.

Four Feet In Heaven

Your favorite chair is vacant now...No eager purrs to meet me. No softly padded paws to run ecstatically to meet me.

No coaxing rubs, nor plaintive cry will say it's time for feeding. I've put away your bowl and all the things, you wont be needing.

But I will miss you little friend, for I could never measure the happiness you brought me, the comfort and the pleasure.

And since God put you here to share in earthly joy and sorrow, I'm sure there'll be a place for you in Heaven's bright tomorrow.

A Poem For Cats

They never leave our memories, the cats who've shared our lives. In subtle ways they let us know their spirit still survives.

Old habits still make us think we hear a meow at the door. Or step back when we drop a tasty morsel on the floor.

Our feet still go around the place the food dish used to be. And sometimes coming home at night, we miss them terribly.

And although time may bring new friends and a new food dish to fill, that one place in our hearts belong to them...and always will.

God Only Takes The Best

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so He put his arms around you and said come with me.

With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away. And although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.

A golden heart has stopped beating and you were finally at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us that he only takes the best.

Paw Prints On My Heart

You came into my life one day, so beautiful and smart. My dear and sweet companion, I loved you from the start.

And though I knew the time would come, when we would have to part. You'll never be forgotten, you left paw prints on my heart.
